Canadian Comedians and Their Beards

They’re everywhere in American popular culture but you don’t always know it. Then you look, trying to figure out where you know them from and suddenly you see it – they’re, of course, a Canadian comedian. And what’s more? Tons of them have absolutely glorious beards. We’re gonna honor some of our favorites here today.

First up, we have everyone’s favorite comedian Jim Carrey. Carrey, of course known mostly for zany over the top characters and, also famously, for his intense method acting, has been doing on-screen roles since the 1980s. He has done off the wall comedies like The Mask, Ace Ventura and even more serious things like The Number 23, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and more.

Now I know what you’re probably thinking. Jim Carrey doesn’t have a beard! Well, sometimes you’d be right. But the truth of it is, Jim has transformed his face many times. And when he does have facial hair – it is stunning. The best example is probably his 2016 thriller Dark Crimes where he sports a thick gray, well groomed beard. But even as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog films, you will see Jim with facial hair.

Here’s a great Canadian comedian that some of you younger ones in the audience might not remember: the comedy legend John Candy. John Candy was one of the funniest men in history. From his early days on SCTV, to his legendary roles in movies like Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and cult classics like Cool Runnings, John Candy’s comedy was always on point –  and he was Canadian through and through.

ohn frequently sported some great facial hair. Whether it was the simple mustache he frequently had, or the most robust beard he sported in movies like Candian Bacon, Candy often had a well covered face. He was a comedy legend gone far too soon.

Now for one of the most famous Comedians of the modern era – Seth Rogen. Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Rogan is known for his bizarre and raunchy sense of humor, having starred in everything from 2007’s Knocked Up to lending his writing and voice to 2016’s Sausage Party, Rogen has done a little bit of everything.

And Seth has one of the most glorious beards of our era. It usually sticks out everywhere and it looks like he cares very little about it, but it’s perfectly representative the man himself. Wild…over the top… a great metaphor for who he is as an actor, writer, comedian, and human being.

Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention everyone’s favorite Hulu comedy, Letterkenny. Letterkenny is one of the funniest programs on TV today, and, it comes to us, you guessed it, straight from Canada. It stars very funny Canadian comedians Jared Keeso and K. Trevor Wilson.

And it also features some of the most glorious beards this side of The Yukon. K. Trevor in particular delivers a powerhouse comedic performance as Squirrely Dan with one of the greatest beards of the modern era. It’s thick, well groomed, and everything about K. Trevor Wilson’s beard is as lovable as the quirky characters in the town of Letterkenny.

Canadian Comedians have perforated popular culture in a way rarely seen before the current era. They are some of the funniest people in the world, with some of the best beards you could ever hope to see. And, one thing is for sure – whether you’re Canadian or American, serious or funny, you can still sport a glorious beard.
